Nectarine

Nectarine is a subspecies of the common peach, characterized by a smooth skin similar to plums. The birthplace of the fruit is China. Translated from Greek, "nectarine" means "drink of the Gods." It is believed that with regular use, the fruit prolongs a person's life.

Main suppliers of culture: Cyprus, Greece, Tunisia, Italy and Israel. Interestingly, in terms of resistance to diseases and pests, nectarine is superior to ordinary peach. In addition, winter-hardy varieties adapted to growing in harsh climates have been bred: in the Volgograd region (Russia) and in the North Caucasus.

The flesh of mature fruits is juicy, sweet with a characteristic bitter note and almond aroma. The chemical composition of nectarine and peach is almost identical. They contain pectins, organic acids, dietary fiber, sugars, vitamins, mineral compounds.

Nectarine prevents and cures atherosclerosis, hypertension. The fruit normalizes digestive processes, maintains youthful skin, improves body tone and has an effective anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effect.

Nectarine varieties

Nectarine is a hairless peach which is characterized by early buds and intensive growth. An adult plant reaches up to 7 m in height. The leaves are large, lanceolate or elongated, green in color with teeth on the edge. The flower is fragrant, white. The fruit has a spherical configuration, red-burgundy, with a groove.

Currently, there is an opinion that nectarine is a hybrid of peach and plum. However, it is not. The fruit is a peach mutation resulting from the crossing of two types of fruit crop.

Krymson Gold

This is a medium-sized, winter-hardy and high-yielding species belonging to the category of hybrids. A characteristic feature of the variety are rounded fruits, weighing 130 g. Nectarines have a yellow color with a blurred striped red blush. The pulp of the fruit is juicy, sweet with delicate fibrousness. Krymson Gold matures quickly, requires timely watering, fertilizing and weeding.

Nectarine 4

The trees of this variety are medium-sized, easy to care for, frost-resistant and drought-resistant. The fruits have a rounded shape and weigh up to 150 g. Pulpfruit fibrous, orange-yellow. Nectarine 4 belongs to high-yielding varieties, despite the weather conditions.

Krymchanin

A compact medium-sized tree with large fruits weighing 190 g. Harvesting takes place in the summer. The peel and pulp of the fruit have an average density, which ensures good transportability of the fruit. The plant is characterized by a regular yield. Fruiting begins within 3 years after planting the seedling in the ground. One tree produces up to 50 kg of fruit per year.

Krymchanin is a winter-hardy and drought-resistant variety of nectarine.

Columnar

Trees of this species are low, compact, reaching 0.5 m in diameter. Fruiting begins 2 years after the rooting of the seedling. Fruits are located very densely on the tree. The columnar nectarine is fertile and has a small crown, making it suitable for growing in gardens with limited space.

Nikitsky 85 and Big Top

This is a new plant variety. The trees are medium-sized with a rounded crown shape, oval fruits. The pulp is well separated from the stone, sweet and juicy. A distinctive feature of these species is early maturation. Thus, the harvest can be started already from the middle of summer.

Flavor Top and Harko

Trees of medium height with medium maturity. The fruits are large up to 160 g, dense, have good transportability.

Varieties Wang

These species are characterized by an average ripening period, high yield and ease of care. The flesh is tender, yellow, aromatic and pleasant to the taste. Wang 3 and 8 are resistant to pests and diseases, but they need a sunny place, regular watering and medium temperatures, they do not tolerate frost.

Thus, today many varieties of nectarine have been bred that are stored longer, have large sizes, are better transported, less whimsical to care for than ordinary peaches. To get a high yield, the plant must receive a sufficient amount of light (grow not in the shade). In addition, planting sites are located on hills, protecting seedlings from drafts and wind, since cold air accumulates in a low-lying area, which can reduce the fruiting of a crop. In particular, this applies to non-winter-hardy varieties. To create drainage, the soil is covered with brick chips or a layer of gravel. Fertilize if necessary.

The longevity of nectarine orchards is low and usually does not exceed 20 years. In the case of growth in adverse conditions, the life expectancy of a tree is reduced to 10 years.

Useful properties

  1. Supports the work of the heart, removes excessbody fluid (potassium).
  2. Normalizes the functioning of the kidneys, participates in cell division, strengthens bone tissue (phosphorus).
  3. Promotes protein synthesis, prevents allergies, skin flaking, early wrinkles, accelerates wound healing (zinc).
  4. Normalizes hematopoiesis, participates in cell development, transport of iron (copper).
  5. Reduces blood sugar, supports the central nervous system, improves digestion (manganese).
  6. Increases hemoglobin (iron).
  7. Increases immunity, reduces the risk of cancer, resists harmful environmental factors (beta-carotene).
  8. Improves the absorption of iron, maintains healthy blood vessels, increases the body's resistance to infectious, viral diseases (ascorbic acid).
  9. Removes toxic metal ions, radioactive elements, improves blood circulation, reduces the level of cholesterol (pectin).
  10. Normalizes metabolic processes, eliminates heaviness in the stomach, removes toxins, accelerates the burning of fats (fiber).

Harmful properties

No more than 4 nectarines are allowed per day.

In case of fruit abuse, side effects occur:

  • bloating;
  • bowel disorder;
  • increase glucose in the blood.

Remember, the pit of a hairless peach contains poisonous hydrocyanic acid, so only amniotic pulp is eaten.

88 g of water is concentrated in 100 g of fruit. In order to avoid frequent urination at night and the occurrence of problems with sleep, nectarine is recommended to be excluded from the evening diet.

Contraindications:

  • diabetes mellitus;
  • allergy;
  • children under 7 months of age;
  • gastric ulcer in the acute phase.

Use the fruit with caution when breastfeeding so as not to cause an allergic reaction in the baby.

Chemical composition

44 kcal is concentrated in 100 g of nectarine pulp. The energy ratio B:L:U is 10%: 7%: 80%. Nectarine contains 2 times more provitamin A and less sugars than peaches.

Interestingly, the shell of the fruit pits is used to make activated charcoal. A fatty oil of bitter nuclear species is used in the pharmacological industry as a solvent in the creation of medicines and ointments.

The phenomenon of the transformation of a hairy peach into a silky smooth fruit, scientists called the classic mutation. Nectarine resistant to frost, diseases and pests. It is believed that early varieties ripen before all stone fruits.

The fruit is recommended to be consumed raw, as it gives an alkaline precipitate. However, it can be harvested like a peach: canned, frozen, boiled.

The therapeutic and prophylactic properties of the fruit are due to the presence of pectins, fiber, fructose, organic acids, coumarin, antioxidants, minerals and a complex of vitamins. The fruit stimulates the secretion of the digestive glands, improves the digestion of fatty, heavy meals, and has a preventive effect on atherosclerosis, hypertension and oncological diseases. Insoluble fiber restores the functioning of the intestines, and soluble fiber reduces cholesterol levels. In addition, the hairless peach nourishes the epithelium with nutrients, slows down age-related changes in the skin (when used externally as part of masks).

Due to its low calorie content (44 kcal per 100 g), the fruit is used in dietary nutrition to correct body weight. In the absence of contraindications, it is recommended to eat 2 fruits of ripe nectarine daily.
